Flying with children and babies can be a nightmare. Not only do parents have to deal with their little ones while soaring through the air at 30,000 feet, but they also need to deal with the judgments and dagger-stares if their baby or child cries. Small children like to move, and if they’re confined somewhere too long, they’ll get frustrated.

They’ll start to kick the back of the seat and annoy the person in front of them. It’s hard to travel with children and babies. But one airline company created a solution that will make it easier for parents to travel with their children. And that means every passenger on the plane will get some relief.

So what’s the solution? Air New Zealand created a new feature for their economy flights that has brought a lot of relief to parents who fly. They claim that this innovation makes “traveling with kids as easy as possible and fun too.”

As a parent myself, I know that sounds like an impossible claim. My daughter is one as I write this and taking her to dinner is a challenge, let alone getting her through airport security and onto a plane.

But New Zealand Air’s Skycouch looks like a great solution. The child-friendly airline has had the solution for a few years now but has not marketed it on a grand scale. Now they’re drawing some attention to it and letting more parents know how easy it can be to fly New Zealand Air.

The Skycouch gives parents more room and freedom to travel with their children. Instead of having to purchase extra tickets or fly first class – or drive to your destination – parents just need to buy a row of seats. The Skycouch is laid out on the seats and even comes with Infant Harness, Belt, and a Pod. That means your little one doesn’t have to sit in your lap for the entire flight. The harness and belt help infants sleep because it keeps them on their backs safely.

The pod feature is more exciting than the belt and harness. Infants and toddlers up to 39 pounds can enjoy the squishy and comfy bassinet that attaches to the window – as far from the other passengers as possible. This lets parents stretch out across the seat and grab some much-needed shuteye while the baby zonks out.

Although New Zealand Air’s Skycouch is innovative, it’s the kind of thing that makes us wonder how no one else thought of this first. Why hasn’t a better solution been created for parents traveling with little ones? And how much does it cost for a family to access this innovation on their next flight?

You wouldn’t be shocked to hear that the Skycouch costs as much as a first-class ticket. But it doesn’t. It’s part of the airline’s economy program.

Parents traveling with infants and toddlers simply just need to ask the airline, and they can use the Skycouch. When they’re on board, the flight attendants will deliver a tutorial and teach parents how to use it so babies can be safe on board.
