Why I wish to join The Temple & how I found out about it...
Long-standing interest in subjects discussed here. To chat with folks on topics of mutual interest and to learn new things.
About Myself & My Interests..
Seeker, reader, wage-slave (librarian), friend, sister, daughter, mom to 2 sons (29 & 23) and chief cat-feeder. Gemini Sun & Moon, Scorpio rising. Celtic/Dutch ethnicity. Southern born & bred, Methodist upbringing; been interested in Theosophy/Ageless Wisdom for 40+ years now.
It's hard to come up with a succinct way to describe my “path” - an esotericist/occultist, a Theosophical eclectic pagan might come close. If I were to choose a "structured" path to work within it would be something along the lines British witchcraft, with an emphasis on the practical application rather than the religious-like structure of Wicca.
I don't like politics or political discussions or arguments; don’t care much for either major party in the US. I'm accepting and liberal on a social/personal basis, but I tend to be more politically and fiscally conservative than most people I’ve encountered who share my interests in the various metaphysical subjects.
I enjoy horary and mundane astrology and have some interest in astrological magic, but I've not yet studied that formally.
Also, having a drink or three with friends, drum circles, reading tarot, star-gazing, Ren faires, lounging around with some escapist fiction, watching movies/TV, or listening to music. Basically, I just like to kick back and have a good time, in lots of various ways.
A couple of favorite ways to de-stress - put on some Led Zeppelin, crank it up, and dance! A hot-rock massage and a hour in the hot tub is super nice, too.
Interests: Astrology (Traditional Astrology, pre-1700 stuff) and Divination (cards, tea leaves, paper crinkling, gazing, etc.), are perennial interests. Recently I’m exploring some of the different old North-Western European pagan traditions. I’ve always had the interest, but no opportunity until recently. Theosophy/Ageless Wisdom, esoteric and occult studies, cosmology, Celtic myths, Old Ways, and culture, spirit communications, OBEs, UFOs, Earth changes, yoga, Indian mysticism, the energy body & auras, occultism and mysticism of late 19th/early 20th century in America & Europe, automatic writing, awakening psychism, the paranormal.
My Teachers & Influences, What was it about them that influenced me?
Alice A Bailey/Djwhal Khul, Sybil Leek, Manly Palmer Hall, William Lilly, Edgar Cayce, and a former yoga instructor.
They each, in different ways, introduced me to various facets of my path. The first book I read that really opened the door for me was by Manly Palmer Hall. It was The Guru. Then a couple of years after that I had a yoga instructor who introduced me to the Ananda Marga Yoga Society and to Eckankar. I'm not a member of either one now, but it was important at the time to me. I got interested in Western Esotericism and Witchraft and astrology through reading Sybil Leek's books, and later learned more from many books put out by the A.R.E. (Edgar Cayce's foundation). The Alice Bailey books furthered my studies and helped me make sense of so much.
Authors and/or Books I appreciate
Letters on Occult Meditation, Treatise on White Magic, Christian Astrology, The Fated Sky, 78 Degrees of Wisdom, Hands of Light, Be Here Now, Toward the One, Diary of a Witch, A Crock of Gold, and too many others to list. For pleasure and relaxation, I read or listen to audiobooks: popular fiction(paranormal/urban fantasy, romance, erotica, suspense/thrillers, sci-fi) and the occasional biography.

Currently interested in the work of Maria Kvilhaug, author of The Seeds of Yggdrasill. I’m currently listening to a series of short lectures on the hidden metaphysical & cosmological knowledge in the Eddas on her youtube channel, Ladyofthe Labyrinth. Good stuff!

Favorite Authors: Sybil Leek, Alice A Bailey, William Lily, Lee Lehman, John Frawley, Raymond Buckland, Carlos Casteñeda, Graham Hancock, Tolkein, Tom Robbins, Tom Wolfe, Kurt Vonnegut, JR Ward, Diana Gabaldon, Anne Rice, Lee Child, David Baldacci, Preston & Child, Jack Higgins, Bertrice Small, J.R. Ward, Olivia Cunning, C D Reiss, Jodi Ellen Malpas, Alexis Hall, Christina Lauren, Lorelei James, Nicole Edwards, Abigail Barnette, Helen Hardt, Sylvia Day, to name only a few.
Musicians and/or Music I appreciate
Rock, 60s acid rock, folk, Irish trad music, dream pop/indie, Indian ragas, Japanese Edo-period music, some jazz, and ambient music. Some faves are Led Zeppelin, Eagles, QMS, Allman Bros Band, Moody Blues, CCR, Joni Mitchell, Donovan, Jimmy Buffett, Ravi Shankar, Beatles, Loreena McKennit, Clannad, & many others of the 60s and 70s. I like a lot of later stuff too.
Films and/or Film-Makers & Actors I appreciate
In general: metaphysical spook movies, science Fiction, romance, drama, myth/folklore, late 50s/early 60s romantic comedy, Samurai films, old movies from the 30s & 40s, some foreign films and animé.

Some faves: The Big Chill, Harold & Maude, Local Hero, The Razor's Edge, Cloud Atlas, Dune, Bell Book & Candle, 13th Warrior, Snatch, Fifth Element, Sixth Sense, The Burbs, Uncle Buck, Up in Smoke, and a bunch more.
TV: Vikings, Sons of Anarchy, The Killing, Sense8, True Blood, X-Files, Firefly, True Detective, Outlander, Mad Men, etc.

Movie people: Meryl Streep, Robert Redford, Sean Connery, Toshiro Mifune, Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon, Jolene Blalock, Clint Eastwood, Alexander Skarsgard, Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp, Kevin Costner, Antonio Banderas, Gerard Butler, Alec Guinness, Sir John Gielgud, Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris, Richard Burton, Ava Gardner, Peter Sellers, Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power.
Artists and/or Art I appreciate
Walter Anderson, Alex Grey, Andrew Wyeth, Van Gogh, Jim Fitzpatrick, and Arthur Rackham (book illustrator) come to mind right away.
