Winter Goddess

Skadi

Shadi the Viking Goddess of Winter was the daughter of a giant, called the snowshoe Goddess. Her name means ‘damage or shade’ that she is a frost giant and a bringer of cold, winter, and death.

The Goddess Skadi ‘Skade, Skathi “name of one of Saturn’s moons” and Ondurgudi’ was married to the Sea God Njord but that was a failure and she has been the Goddess of winter and lived in the mountains where the snow never melts. Skadi is a female giant, daughter of Thjazi, wife of Njord, and her step children of Freyr and Freyja.

Njord did not like the coldness and the dreariness of the mountains. Skadi wanted to live in the home once owned by her father Thaizi, he was eventually slain by the Gods for abducting Indunn, the Goddess of youth. His home is all granite cut unto the face of a cliff and is a giant dwelling.

Skadi was a tall and strong white blonde with a pale ice blue eyes and pale skin.

Skadi was involved in the events following Balder’s death. After Loki orchestrates the murder of the beloved god, he was punished by being bound to a rock beneath the world with the entrails of his son. Skadi punished him by taking a poison snake and fastened up over Loki’s face, and the poison dripped the venom in his mouth.

She is referred to getting married to the God Odin and produced many children together. The Scandinavians may be related to the name Skadi – meaning Skadi’s Island. She has also inspired various arts of work.

Skadi means “harm” or a German root preserved in the Gothic word Skadus – which mean shadow.

Skadi is a jotunn and the Goddess associate as a warrior, into bow hunting and shoots beasts, snowshoes and skiing. She was also known as a dark magician but some say that she is not an evil goddess. She symbolizes the many dark times that we all go through.

She is stormy and unpredictable, relentless in her pursuit as what she perceives as justice.
