Temple Illuminatus

Can anyone out there tell me about how much a professional web page should cost?  Also for a one person small business, how many links should I have?  Links?????  Thanks.

I am writing down every suggestion I get, and checking them out also. Of course, I told my husband I'd take a break from it for one day....it was our last fight. He's angry that I keep a pad and pen with me at all times to write down ideas as I get them.

These days you can also do a lot yourself with WordPress. That is what I do for my own business. And what I teach beginning counsellors to do. I only hire web designers to help me with what I can't do myself and that makes it so much cheaper.

LoL I'm just into a lot of different things and have friends in weird places. In general I'm good at finding things. I don't always have answers, but I usually have a good idea on where to find them.

one of the things to consider is building the site on your own. there are places that make it a user-friendly process. the catch is finding one with reliable technical service because you will have those sorts of questions at some point. I've been able to learn some things as I work on my blog and through the Yahoo! Contributor Network.Yahoo has a set of classes where you can learn the basics of writing content for the web, optimizing your site for search engines (SEO) and some other stuff

if you want to check that out, you can sign up for free and just look for the "academy" Yahoo Contributor Network. it's meant for the people submitting content to Yahoo for editorial review and possible publishing, but it's useful and applies to more than Yahoo contributors. really a good little crash course on writing and marketing yourself on the internet.

As I was calling through the yellow pages today, some guy told me it would cost me a ballpark figure of $1500 for him to build a website, with $224 a year on top of that.  And yes, I knew he was ripping me off.  Hey, there's a dumb female.  I don't think he quite believed me when I said I was gathering info.  I go to the SBA office in Oswego on Friday to help put all my notes together for my business plan.  This way, I may even sound like I know what I'm talking about with web sites.

I'm beginning to think I should check with you on all my questions.  Thanks love.

it depends. one thing to consider is the domain name or address (www.yoursitename.com), and you may need to pay someone to use the domain you want. this can be cheap, but you may need to reregister periodically.

I don't know anything about running your own server to host the site. more common would be to pay someone like godaddy to host your site, and those rates will vary from company to company.

there are also free web hosts out there, like google and wordpress. they make it easy to set things up, but you may have little control over advertisements placed on the site, less support and features, etc. I use google to run a blog, and it's been ok. I'm just learning about stuff myself, and they have their own forums and help blogs and stuff. but they also really push their own products on you...analytics, adsense, google+ etc. and try to persuade you to use and streamline all of those products so that they know everything you're doing

if you're having someone build a site for you, then I've really got no clue LoL...but I've got a friend who's trying to get me into it. maybe I can get more info for you.

Links are anything that a web user can click on that takes him or her to a web site, like the text above that says "godaddy" you'll notice in the top of the reply box on Temple Illuminatus that there's a little blue "link" button for creating links to other web pages in the things that you post here.

so, as a business, you'd want as many links out there as possible that point web surfers to your site. but not all links are good, because web search engines like google and bing will hold it against you if you have a lot of links on websites known for spam and malware. however, if lots of people link to your page all over the internet, then your site is more likely to show up in search engine results

I hope that stuff helps a little bit.

one thing to do is to do a search for "web hosting" and look into the companies that show up. they'll each have different packages, etc.

you can start here: http://www.consumer-rankings.com/hosting/

they're comparing several companies by price, services, reliability, etc.
