My thoughts today are based on today’s meditation from the book The Celtic Spirit by Caitlin Matthews.
The way we relate to the land has changed. Where once we saw a link between the fertility of land & beast & people now there is a disconnect. Few people equate hamburger with the cow it came from. Few have actually pulled a carrot from the ground or an apple from a tree. Our food comes packaged clean & sanitary, with no mess & very little effort. We don’t give thanks to that which dies to support our life, we fail to even acknowledge that it happens.
In the time of year when planning & planting is taking place very few of us are a part of it. Even in the depth of the city, trees are budding, grass is greening, spring flowers are blooming but do we celebrate it or even notice?
Changing this takes conscious thought because we have lost the habit. But I believe it is a habit well worth regaining. To say grace (thank you) for our meals, to take our daily walks aware & engaged in our surrounding both are worth the time it takes.
