3 of Wands - Experiencing

"Have you ever touched a butterfly?"

(Thanks ethereal ! Lovetouch )

----------------------

One of the meanings of the 3 of Wands is not only exploring your horizons into unknown territories (like in business projects), but becoming a visionary and experiencing life with an understanding and awareness.

In the traditional Univ. Waite deck, the business merchant is surveying the land ahead in preparation for his next move...standing at the cliff of the Fool...but this time with a purpose to take in the scene.

In the Osho Zen deck, the woman is also "surveying" the land by "touching" the tree to learn how it feels, how it "hugs" back when she hugs it...what it's purpose is here in the field. "Experience" is another word for the 3 of Wands...and she is making the most of her time understanding the tree with all her senses.

This little girl is also experiencing her friend the butterfly by interacting with it...being gentle with her touch as to not harm the strange creature. Her "Love-Touch" is from her heart...the heart of a child...who approaches life as one who learns by trying to become as the butterfly...floating freely from her cocoon of enslavement...and enjoying her space for as long as she has left in this transformed form. Even at a young age, the girl will take this experience with her and remember to try and remain free and able to love...even if for only one lifetime !

Experiencing is a natural part of our existence. To question is to be human. To live free is a right for all. As the butterflies emerge from their "religious cocoons", they do not look back in anger at their lost time in captivity to dogma...but look forward to the new freedom of spreading their wings !

Beautiful picture and write up, Eric. This reminds me so much of my enjoyment raising caterpillars into butterflies and watching them hatch. :-)
