This post springs from another discussion thread appearing in the Temple today discussing instances of potential child abuse, and from an email I received this evening synchronistically involving the…Continue
Androgynous - predominately male, but I'm aware of an inner feminine presence
Why I want to join the Temple
As a visitor, I've observed some stimulating, articulate, and insightful dialogue here. I'd like to join in!
About Myself and My interests
I'm interested in spiritual teachings of many traditions, with a practice rooted in paganism; music; poetry; creative writing; health and fitness; alternative healing.
My Teachers and Influences
Very influential in my early spiritual unfoldment as an adult were selected leaders in the New Thought movement, and self-styled Western gurus who offered Eastern teachings. While several of these were, though I didn't recognize it at the time, less virtuous than they seemed, for me they still offered an initial exposure to a broader, more inclusive, and more authentic sort of spiritualtiy than that which I knew as a youth. Currently, I am studying with Rev. Don Lewis' WitchSchool, which conveys the Correllian tradition.
To an extent, they're a mishmash of inconsistent aims . . . but my deepest hopes and intentions are to see the blossoming of a more harmonious and peaceful spirit in the hearts of us all. I try to play my small part in helping this to happen by focusing on one need at a time rather than a grand strategy, realizing that if success is to be had, I do not know with certainty whether what will unfold is a fairly rapid beginning of a golden age, or a slow evolutionary change that takes millenia.
Authors and/or Books I appreciate
Richard Bach (still, after all these years).
Alexander Dolgun (little known, but his autobiography provides some interesting insight into both the bright and dark areas of human nature).
Mahatma Gandhi (whose autobiography is also pretty nifty)
Music I appreciate
My favorite styles include Celtic, jazz, and new flamenco, and I also favor selected pieces of reggae, classical, and rock music.
Movies and TV shows I appreciate
My favorite TV shows are the old British classic The Prisoner, Babylon 5, PBS' news shows Frontline and Need to Know (I miss Bill Moyer's show, too), Steve Allen's old series Meeting of Minds, and the Mr. Bean series & Whose Line Is It Anyway for comedy. Favorite movies include Awakenings, Forrest Gump, What's Up, Doc?, the Matrix series, The Man of a Thousand Faces, The Great Race, and probably several others that aren't coming to awareness as I write this.
