Why I want to join the Temple
To connect with people who share my interests.
About Myself and My interests
I am a writer and autodidact with long-time interests in Eastern and Western forms of esotericism and occultism, including interest in the history of trends in spirituality, religion, and occultism. Background in Vedanta, Buddhism, and related subjects spans more than 20 years. Interests in Western esotericism (e.g., classical and medieval Hermeticism) and occultism (eg,, Chaos magick) have occupied my more recent interests as well as work with the quasi 16th century grimoire the Arbatel.
My Teachers and Influences
I've studied directly with a number of senior swamis of the Ramakrishna Math and also a lama or two. The preSocratic philosophers and later neoPlatonists are the Western equivalents of that kind-a sort-a. And just when I thought I might join the OTO some years ago, I discovered Austn Osman Spare and became avid about Chaos magic and post-modern magic in general for a while.
My Goals
Wu: I have performed many good deeds. How much merit have I gained toward admittance to nirvana.
Bodhidharma: None whatsoever.
Wu: Then what is the point?
Bodhidharma: To be empty of yourself
Wu: Just who do you think you are?
Bodhidharma: I have no idea
Authors and/or Books I appreciate
I have a huge library of books that I don't look at anymore.
Music I appreciate
Led Zeppelin ;-} --and classical Baroque music.

Meditation and its Effects Part 2

Meditation and Magick

As mentioned in Part 1, when the mind becomes calm, you may want to focus on an ideal or an image or mentally repeat a mantra (a meaningful sound or short prayer or name-or a spell) in rhythm with the breath. For some (not all), this helps focus the mind. Mantra literally means “controlling the mind.” The rhythm and vibration of the spoken, whispered, or mentally recited sound establishes a rhythm in the body, and this can have beneficial effects…

Meditation and Its Effects Part 1

Mindfulness East or West

“You must keep the mind fixed on one object, like an unbroken stream of oil. The ordinary man’s mind is scattered on different objects, and at the time of meditation, too, the mind is at first apt to wander. But let any desire whatever arise in the mind, you must sit calmly and watch what sorts of ideas are coming. By continuing to watch in that way, the mind becomes calm, and there are no more thought-waves.” Swami…

On Thought-forms, Tulpas. and Servitors

Posted on July 11, 2012 at 6:05pm 0 Comments

Thought-forms are important tools in sorcery. What are they? They are purpose-directed thoughts that are so strong and well-defined that they seem to manifest as concrete objects or otherwise take on a life of their own. In post-modern magic, they are often referred to as servitors. To this American, “servitor” sounds like a great dystopic term coined by a sci-fi writer, but it is simply a synonym for “servant,” more commonly used in British English (and coopted by the patriarchs of Chaos…
