It's interesting to see how many different takes on shamanism there are in the world, from healing, to divination, to oracle work. One which I rarely see covered much but which forms a huge part of my practice is being a psychopomp; speaking to the dead and sometimes (in my case) guiding the dying to their final rest. It's not the sugar-and-light-and-fluffy-stuff which tends to comprise a lot of modern-age-shamanism, but like the undertaker on the spiritual plane, it's a necessary job. I honestly could whitter on, and on, and on, and on, and...yes...but I've learned the best thing to do sometimes is just to sit and watch, observe, listen, and THEN have a word or three. The basics: I live in England and have done for over a decade, but I'm originally from the Midwest, and also lived in my favourite city, Seattle, for many years. For those who are interested in discussing the futhark, the lore and history, rune poems, and uses - please come in. The Prairie Sky Hearth is a family hearth and use of the runes forms a core part of our spiritual practice.
People have brewed fermented products, on purpose or accidentally, since the dawn of time and humanity. Together I hope we can learn and develop this natural skill to continue our evolution with the brews we create.
I was approached on Twitter, and while I don't exactly agree with everything said, it is good to be able to compare views with many people as I live rather remote
About Myself and My interests
I have done Work for over 26 years, studying from different groups and teachers, I've now been drawn to Northern Trad though I'm rather eclectic. I'm a writer and artist, making prayer beads and paintings, prints, and whatever else I actually finish. I homebrew and living in a bit of a "Luddite" way I suppose, smoking my own meat, baking bread, growing food, but it's a good life.
My Teachers and Influences
My church is where I'm standing.
One foot in front of the other
Authors and/or Books I appreciate
Raven Kaldara, Ted Andrews, Tanith Lee, Tolkien, myth and mystery without maudlin
Music I appreciate
Everything but country and polka
Movies and TV shows I appreciate
I don't watch either; this possibly makes me sound more boring than I really am.
Pleasure to make your acquaintance! It would be great to sit and have a conversation with you about psychopompic work and our abilities. Like you mentioned, it's nice knowing there are others out there and that we're not over the cuckoo's nest. Ha! ;D
