Beltane Masterpost

And May Day celebrations.

Modern day Beltane is a fire and life festival in which we welcome the coming of summer. The version we celebrate today is a loosely watered down of the Gaelic festival, which is where the origins of Beltane lie. Some prefer simply to celebrate May Day instead. Beltane happens on the 1st of May, but some choose to celebrate Beltane Eve.

Beltane is known in it’s modern incarnation as being a fertility festival, but this is not the only aspect of the holiday. Many choose to honour the fresh life in nature as the summer comes instead of fertility as the whole sex thing is an uncomfortable topic for some.

My Recommendations

To me, Beltane is all about opening up to feeling those summer vibes. I like to encourage plants around me to grow, feeI the warmth of life that has returned. It is said that jumping over a fire during Beltane will give you luck and wishes for the rest of the summer. It might be a little unsafe to do this however, so i’d suggest doing it with a few candles instead if you plan on it. Make flower crowns. If you’re interested in working with fae, now is the time to grab their attention. Do spells for the rest of the summer to be a good one. Sing all night long to encourage the plants to grow. Allow happiness to pour into you like honey. Open yourself up to having fun and being carefree.
