Hi Andrew ...

I've been working with herbals and medicinals for over 20 years. I come from a western medicine background, and witnessed the damage that man-made drugs did to people, and I was pushed to find the natural aspects from which man got the medical ideas from ... nature. Of course now most drugs are chemically created in a lab then tested to find out what they can do ... they say the drugs were created with an illness in mind ... ya right, I don't buy it all ... but, some yes.

Anyway ... tablet form, no ... I have reasons if you want to hear them. of course TCM covers that ... I have the recipes, but some of the herbs are hard to find. Liquid form ... they have that already for certain medicinals ... usually for the oil-based plants, and plants like aloe. Cooking with medicinals is a big YES! Spices are very strong medicinals, as well as food used in the right way.

I don't know what you are asking ... what would you like to know? Medicinals are a HUGE amount of info, and generally one or two books on them is never sufficient if you want to learn to understand them, and how they work, how to correctly use them and the side effects ... and the big one ... interactions. Many cultures, like India and China, use medicinals in conjunction with food ... which is very effective in treating many conditions.

So ask a few questions ... the info is too huge to explain any of it ... everything from choosing, planting, harvesting to storing to using it correctly.

Sorry for the generalization.

Minque

Thank you for the information. really would like to know more about cultivation of herbs and their uses in cooking. And yes in healing as well, I realise that it is complex but am keen to learn and find out more.

Oh this is a beaut of a discussion Andrew...what a good idea! Thanks for this x

Nice place for questions eh Minque?
*Aloe Vera plants....I need to get one. Saw one in the marketplace...way out of my price range. Wondering if I can get seeds or what to set my own up. Minque they say you czn break a piece of and rub it straight on certain skin ailments. Is that as easy as it sounds? And which ailments inparticular? Burns would worry me ..a mild one for myself perhaps but a child..I'd be too nervous to use it.
*Tea bags and leaves for various ills or treatments.........can we use them as in opening them up, using the tea bag and its contents etc Useful if we can :)

Thank you Pattie x

herbal medicines...i somewhat touch a little on it in my kitchen group...since these recipes are made in a kitchen i've been debating whether or not to include medicinal herb recipes in my group...i prefer a natural way most all the time in any circumstance...
