What is the Subconscious Mind and How Does it Work?We have two parts of our minds; the conscious mind and the subconscious mind. The conscious mind works with rational thought and attempts to understand. If I were to ask you what your favorite color was, you'd give me an answer. See, that's your conscious mind talking. You're aware of what you're saying and doing. The subconscious mind, on the other hand, works with images, symbols, patterns, and already understands (even in its own way). When someone is learning how to drive, they must focus on what exactly they're doing so they can register the whole process. They can't have any distractions, such as trying to hold a conversation with the person next to them—yet! They'll get used to driving so much that they'll find that they can finally talk and navigate at the same time!
Now, when I asked you what your favorite color was, why are you attracted to that particular color? Have you ever thought about it? Let's say you said orange. Because of this, you are a warm, outgoing soul who prefers to take center stage and make the best entertaining performance. Your subconscious mind picks up on the meanings of the color due to its shade and vibrancy and associates it with you since you connect with the same traits.
Not only can you find out more about yourself (personality, talents, destiny, etc.) just through colors, but also through the rest of your affinities, imagination, and dreams. Dreams are especially a way for the subconscious to communicate with you. Dreams are to usually be looked at symbolically, not literally. Researching dream symbols can be helpful, but keep in mind that it all comes down to what you perceive a particular symbol to represent since that is how the subconscious mind works.

Most of us find comfort in turning on the ''auto pilot'' in our consciousness and simply glide through life unaware, wondering in dreamland, fast asleep.
We focus most of our energy (thoughts) on the past and the attempt to see into the future and even perhaps, alter the future, whilst walking asleep in our Now moment.
I challenge you yet today, to focus your mind to the Now moment. Your current feelings, your very own current thoughts, and the world around you as it is, rather than as you wish it was; and share with us how your world magically changes in front of your eyes - Be enlightened...
Hi Tegwedd, Freud referenced the unconscious in much the same way as others would reference the subconscious. To be aware of the subconscious, dimly or otherwise, would indicate conscious awareness. In fact, the two words "conscious" and "awareness" can be synonyms.
Comment by Tegwedd ShadowDancer on April 10, 2012 at 8:23pm I see the subconscious and the unconscious as being 2 separate, but closely associated parts of the total mind. We are dimly aware of the subconscious. It occurs to us in dreams, ideas, inspirations, etc. We are not aware of the unconscious, but things come out of it at unguarded moments. The sub- and unconscious are where our magick gets done.
Hi Alvin, I don't see any difference betweent he unconscious and the subconscious. If the subconscious mind is storing filtered information it is acting like the vault you describe the unconscious to be. As a hypnotist, I watch the subconscious in action with every client I hypnotize. I think the two words are merely a matter of semantics and preference.
