What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is an ancient art and science developed over 3,000 years ago in China. It is a complex body of knowledge that reveals how to balance the energies of any given space to assure the health and good fortune for people inhabiting it.

The term ''feng shui' translates to ''wind-water" from Chinese to English. In Chinese culture wind and water are associated with good health, thus good feng shui came to mean good fortune, while bad feng shui means bad luck, or misfortune.

Feng Shui is based on the Taoist vision and understanding of nature, particularly on the idea that the land is alive and filled with Chi, or energy. The ancient Chinese believed that the land's energy could either make or break the kingdom, so to speak. The theories of yin and yang, as well as the five feng shui elements, are some of the basic aspects of a feng shui analysis that come from Taoism.
The main tools used in a feng shui analysis are the Compass and the Ba-Gua. The Ba-Guais an octagonal grid containing the symbols of the I Ching, the ancient oracle on which Feng Shui is based. Knowing the Bagua of your home will help you understand the connection of specific feng shui areas of your home to specific areas of your life. See the below widget!

Hello! I am Wren Dancer.  I have been studying Feng Shui for many years, and have had the great good fortune to study Black Tantric Sect Feng Shui with Grandmaster Thomas Lin Yun, and with his senior student Eileen Conti Weklar.  I do consultations and swaps.  It's so nice to be here!

Dawn, A simple small mirror is a good remedy for that if you can place it facing up the stairs. Also, A square dark colored rug at the bottom is a good safety remedy because it visually "Anchors" the bottom of the stairway.

Even if you cant change it you can "Remedy" it. ^_^

In my house , when you first open the door the steps are right in front of you. I'm guessing this is bad energy.ButI can't change it .

I'd like to find a simple no bs set of directions. period. Too much conflicting stuff out there so my house is arranged just as I can fit stuff in it (small spaces) -

Ha!  Don't worry, I totally get the ice thing!  I have been known to ice my wine while sitting on the porch. :-)   At the moment I haven't a drop of the water of life in the house!   Scandalous, I know, but it's true.  I'm between bottles.  LOL  Normally I keep it on a silver tray along with suitable glasses on what passes for a side board. I'll have to think about the exact placement related to the house as a whole and directions and all that - now that you've brought it to my attention.  I'm curious!  It's probably in the wrong place.  I wouldn't be surprised it the whole house if f-ed up that way!  :-]
