On Page 15 of The Art and Practice of Astral projection Ophiel states that "There are ways in which the Etheric body can be seen with the physical eyes so near is it to the physical body. If the eyes are trained by looking thru a piece of glass stained with a certain dye of a certain color, it is then possible to see the Etheric body surrounding the physical body like a kind of white shadow commonly called the Aura. If the eyes are treated this way for some time carefully they then become accustomed to seeing this Aura by looking for it. (further information on this in the last section) As I said previously your consciousness is now centered in the Physical Body and it is for this reason that you are not aware of the existence of these other bodies. You will become aware of them shortly as you learn to expand your consciousness to the other bodies each in turn."
I know I see this a lot when I look at people. That white 'halo' around their bodies. Some people seem to be 'brighter' than others. I can sometimes see it around my hands or even myself when I look in the mirror. Some folks have said that it is merely a trick of the eyes. What do you think?

Permalink Reply by River Aeterna on August 17, 2011 at 11:13pm I have "seen" auras surrounding living creatures for a long time. In humans, the aura seems to be most prominent in those who are motivational speakers, preachers or entertainers. One trick is to look at them when they are in front of a white wall, without bright stage lights. I know someone who has seen them, once in awhile. She had a huge experience a few years back when we were at a picnic near a small human-made lake by the zoo. We had a friend who was wheelchair bound, a woman in her mid-40's who suffered from congestive heart failure. She was one of the sweetest women you'd ever meet. She loved it when I would pick her up and take her to the VFW to dance with the Veterans...in her wheelchair! The evening that her aura was seen, the aura was pink. I recall that we discussed what that might mean. I, personally, did not see the color, but my other friend was adamant that it was pink. Less than two weeks later, this sweet woman suffered a heart attack and died. In retrospect, we can't help but wonder...did the pinkish tinge to her aura on that day foreshadowed her coming passing?

Permalink Reply by Robert on September 10, 2011 at 7:34am Ok, I agree with this. However the tool I was taught with was colour rather than a filtered lens. By using focus on the shadow formed by colour on the retina, to expand the perception. Yes as you perceive deeper into your own spirit you will see the corresponding layers in others. Aura is just the peripheral stuff really. If you want to know what is going on in another look at the chakras directly.(ask? I think this stuff can be very rude if done without permission, besides people will hide their stuff if they think someone is looking!) I have not been able to hold the perception of higher levels of being when I'm all gross in the physical mundane, but I wouldn't want to 'it would be freaky' I was given a number of tools involving dots, spirals, colour..The big part is dealing with what comes up in your own when you look. processing and moving deeper. No great trick to it, sit outside at dawn and gaze at the horizon that's a good place to start. Oh it helps if it's alive!.....other tools for seeing better, clearer...please???.

As I replied to Aeterna above,...
I dont know how to read auras and I dont know what the colors are supposed to mean although I have read about it. What I find significant is the idea that we possess these other 'bodies' and the transference of this consciousness /awareness/ego to these other bodies. It is offered as 'proof' of the somewhat intangible and subjective Etheric Body and the Astral body, etc.
I read a book called the etheric double it gives a more in depth look at that glass method for seeing peoples auras descirbed vaguely by Ophiel and is an excellent read as for being able to read and discern peoples auras i can`t but would love to develop this ability
Have you guys heard of Kirlian photography?? Walter J Kilner?? You can buy Kilner style aura goggles on Ebay which are glasses with the glass stained certain colours and train the eyes to see the aura.Search for "Aura glasses" or "aura goggles" etc.
I posted the Ophiel vignettes and Ophiel wrote one on the aura which you can read over.
If i recall correctly,Ophiel recommended a book by Walter J Kilner about his Kirlian photography and i would imagine the glasses designed by Kilner are made of the glass Ophiel was referring to in the quote about the stained glass. You can of course Google Kilner for more info.
Hope this helps.
I do not often see auras in color, but I see energy around people, which I assume is their aura. What Ophiel says about training your eyes by looking through stained glass does not make sense to me. I believe that being able to see auras is about using your intuition and third eye, not seeing it physically. So no, it is not a "trick of the eyes" at all. Feeling another person's energy is all part of "seeing" their aura.
Permalink Reply by Shinobi Bombay on April 27, 2012 at 12:42pm I believe that what he was trying to get at was the pixilation of what we see. When i was a kid, around five I guess, I spit on the television set and I noticed it was made of red and blue dots.
Also, I agree that the 'feeling' is an essential part. Even a blind person "see's" on the astral planes.
