93! Hello, my friends!!! I'm fascinated with the philosophical properties in occult practice and thought. What do you all think? Is it dualism? Materialism? Should we be studying Philos. of mind? Where does consciousness fit in.....Any thoughts or insights would be greatly appreciated! :)

Here is what I feel, Materialism is here just to teach us to let go of some desires, as they cam become fleeing if we cling too tight to them or our desires. As far as occult, there is definitely secret knowledge out there, and tapping in to it is ok if it seems right for a person to do As some knowledge can not be unlearned. I think dualism is the key to understand this realm. As things are not what they seem here and for many the truth is a lie and a lie is a truth, So I feel this a realm of false opposites
From Philos, I get the Greek word meaning the unconditional love we have for a friend.
I feel our consciousness is our state of awakeness to the greater connection of consciousness. As all information is there for every action ever done, in this realm, as infinite wisdom is part of the future consciousness, where we surf in the infinite realm of possibilities.
Have you read Plato's Allegory of the Cave or the Emerald Tablets, about Hermes and Toth.
A duality in USA is we copied many ways of the American Indians, and we exterminated and moved them to the least desirable property we could provide them, and the Indians were proclaimed as heathens, yet we copied many of their beliefs

Gowin on May 4, 2012 at 6:23am There is a line in The Book of the Law that says, "All words are sacred and all prophets true..." and in another place, "All numbers are infinite; there is no difference." One thing I take away from this is the idea that there is a seed or core of truth in every human philosophy, religion, doctrine and tradition. Our task is the alchemical work of sorting the gold of truth from the dross or inert matter in each. Studying philosophy is a good first step in this process. There are many planes of reality, and each plane has its own "truth". Duality is a valid perspective, one of many equally valid ones (unity, trinity, quaternity, etc.). Materialism is true on the plane of matter, as is spiritualism on the plane of spirit. Understanding the relative truth to be found in all traditions can give us clues to the nature of the ultimate reality that underlies all.

Permalink Reply by Robert on May 4, 2012 at 7:04pm Philosophy, science, religion are a three legged stool. Occult practice, can be taken to mean a lot of possibilities depending on, how much you think you know about that which is not widely known. Thought can be a pain, unless it is focused. And those secret truths are secret because unless you know them no amount of telling the tale will enlighten you, and once you know them it is as if you always knew.
If we take occult practice to mean, awareness of the paths and ways presented in one of the patterns humanity has in it's keeping such as the i-ching or the cabbalah, this in itself is full of philosophy. And consciousness, well this is it. Take for instance that the numbers we use have cabbalistic reference, as to their shape and the points that are represented.
learning a path, is a way of training the conscious, subconscious, unconscious. and if we assume that the attributions are correct, gaining some insight into consciousness. it doesn't really matter the path, so long as it is one of the tried and trusted ones, more important the adherence of the candidate, Not to in anyway put the eclectic approach down, after all, that which is all things is all things.
What, I must ask, is dualism? 1sn't that where we are at the moment.(time and space)- Newton. Unity must be here somewhere, if we are all,.. here/now?- Einstein. And from there on it just gets messy!!
Bless your day, Magus Magazine!
